A Colorful Milwaukee Wedding at GATHER at the Deer District

Maddie & Reese | August 31, 2025 | Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Maddie and Reese got married at GATHER at the Deer District on a perfect late summer day.

The venue's modern design and downtown energy set the stage for a celebration that was joyful, personal, and full of color.

The Venue

GATHER at the Deer District was the perfect fit. The open layout and contemporary design created an upbeat city vibe—so light and airy. Maddie's an architect, so choosing such a striking venue was probably no accident! Ceremony and reception both happened here, keeping everyone together all day.

The balcony was a standout space. Live music during cocktail hour added to the celebratory vibe, and it gave us the perfect spot for candid moments overlooking the city.

How They Met

Maddie and Reese's story goes way back to elementary school. They grew up side by side before heading off to separate colleges. Years later, life brought them back together when Maddie's best friend transferred to Reese's school.

Spending more time together felt natural—and before long, they realized their connection had always been there. Their wedding day reflected that: comfortable, genuine, and rooted in friendship.

Getting Ready

Maddie and Reese got ready at the Trade Hotel,.

They chose to stay apart before the ceremony, opting for individual portraits and separate wedding party photos. This gave each of them space to be present and enjoy the anticipation.

Maddie could see the wedding venue from her bridal suite at the Trade.

Another one of those unscripted moments I adore: Maddie was a beautiful bride, even while doing something as mundane as brushing her teeth!

Her brother and dad came in to her room for a quick first look. Not a dry eye in sight!

The Ceremony

The ceremony was so sweet. Maddie and Reese wrote their own vows, and Reese's brother officiated—which added so much warmth and emotion to the moment.

Flower girls handed out flowers as they walked down the aisle, setting a sweet, joyful tone before Maddie and Reese shared their vows and sealed it with a celebratory dip and kiss.

This is one of those unscripted moments that I adore. This little flower girl (Reese’s niece) escaped grandpa’s arms and came right up to the bride and groom in the middle of the ceremony. Both of her parents were in the wedding party and just watched unable to do anything. Keep an eye out for her! She shows up again later in this blog.

Color Done Right

Color played a big role in the day’s design—and it was done beautifully. Groomsmen wore navy, while bridesmaids each wore a different shade of pink, creating a look that felt playful, cohesive, and full of personality.

Each table had its own cake! This was Maddie + Reese’s cake.

Florals, created by a family friend, echoed that same mix of pinks and creams and tied perfectly into the table décor and wedding cakes.. So dreamy!

One of the prettiest engagement rings I have ever seen! And I love the teeny tiny flowers in this bouquet.

Portraits with Breathing Room

Before the ceremony, Maddie and Reese chose to stay apart, opting instead for individual portraits and separate wedding party photos.

After the ceremony, they took time for couple portraits, letting the city setting, architecture, and light guide the images.

Can’t make this stuff up: the couple was given well-wishes by a Milwaukee Forest Gump who happened to be running by!

The Reception

Live music during cocktail hour set an energetic tone for the reception. Lively speeches kept everyone laughing while they ate.

Their romantic first dance… followed by a packed dance floor full of lifelong friends and family.

And there she is again! The flower girl ran out to crash the first dance! (I think she’s really excited for her turn!)

The dance floor was packed!

Reese showed off his dance moves

Maddie and her girls screamed out the lyrics to their favorite songs.

Final Thoughts

Maddie and Reese's wedding was a beautiful reminder that the most meaningful celebrations come from keeping things personal. Writing their own vows, surrounding themselves with lifelong friends and family, and leaning into color and joy made their day one of a kind!

A wedding rooted in friendship, love, and a really good party!
